Second Annual Bozeman Craft Beer Week features over 20 beer-centric events, unique collaboration beer

Fermentana releases 2018 event schedule and passport, announces collaboration beer details

Bozeman, MT (April 10, 2018) - Bozeman Craft Beer Week is fast approaching and adventurous beer-cationers and locals alike must begin contemplating which events to attend during the Gallatin Valley’s biggest annual beer bash. Craft beer week attendees can expect to find the collaboration lager available on tap and in cans at Bozeman Brewing Company, the host brewery for the beer project, as well as at participating sponsor businesses and retailers starting in late April through the end of craft beer week.

Proceeds from events throughout the week, as well as the sale of the collaboration beer, will be donated to Fermentana's craft beer week nonprofit partner, Gallatin Valley Land Trust, to support their mission of protecting open space and creating trails across the community.

2nd Annual Bozeman Craft Beer Week is a celebration of craft beer, open space, and trails

After a successful first year, the Gallatin Valley craft beer community will once again come together to celebrate Bozeman Craft Beer Week May 5-12, 2018. Organized by Fermentana, a local events promotions company, the eight-day, multi-venue celebration will feature over 20 beer-centric events happening across Bozeman and Belgrade, Montana.

In its second year, Bozeman Craft Beer Week incorporates new features including the addition of an official beneficiary. For 2018, Fermentana will donate a portion of the proceeds from the event week to local nonprofit Gallatin Valley Land Trust (GVLT). Through this partnership, the organizers aim to not only celebrate the Bozeman area’s robust and growing craft beer scene but harness the enthusiasm for this local fermented beverage as a tool to give back to the community.

“Bozeman Craft Beer Week is about more than just craft beer,” says event co-founder, Jesse Bussard. “It’s also about community and we felt it was important to incorporate that more deeply into the week going forward. By partnering with GVLT and making their mission part of our event’s theme, we not only celebrate local craft beer, but we’re able to use beer as a tool to support GVLT’s important work to preserve our quality of life, water quality and open lands for future generations.”

GVLT’s mission of protecting open space and creating trails will play a key part in the 2018 craft beer week theme, “Bold Beer. Big Sky. Beautiful Places.” Additionally, 10 participating local breweries will work together to brew a single collaboration beer for the week. This beer will be available on draft and cans around Bozeman in early May with proceeds from its sale donated to GVLT.

Brewers from 10 craft breweries across the Gallatin Valley convened at Bozeman Brewing Company on January 9th, 2018 to design a recipe for what will become Bozeman Craft Beer Week's official collaboration beer. More details coming in the months ahead!

Currently, more than 30 businesses are slated to participate in the second annual event. Moreover, Fermentana welcomes Sidewinders American Grill as the 2018 Co-Presenting Sponsor. A recent addition to the Bozeman community, Sidewinders features classic American dishes with an international flare and over 75 different beers on tap, as well as wines and spirits. Additional sponsorship opportunities for businesses will remain open until February 28th.

While many events are still in the planning stages, craft beer enthusiasts can expect more of the fun and interactive events they experienced in Bozeman Craft Beer Week’s first year, as well as the addition of several new festivities. Once again, the Montana Brewers Association's Brewers Spring Rendezvous will culminate the eight days of events at week's end.

Fermentana plans to release the official event schedule in early April at a special event at Sidewinders. More details on the schedule release and collaboration beer will be made available in the coming months.

Local craft beer fans and tourists alike are invited to join the Bozeman area community in celebrating the best the region’s craft beer scene has to offer.

VIDEO RELEASE: Bozeman Craft Beer Week 2017 is almost here!!!

We'd like to thank our friends at Single Six Media for pulling together this awesome short video on Bozeman Craft Beer Week for us! Check it out and hear about some of the awesome things in store for Bozeman's inaugural craft beer week!

The Story Behind Bozeman's 1st Craft Beer Week

Back in early January, we shared a little on the backstory of how Bozeman Craft Beer Week came to be in our press release. However, it didn't tell the whole story.

The idea didn't come as easy as it sounds in the newspaper stories, but instead got its start at a homebrew club meeting (how fitting, right?). Various members and beer-loving friends kept asking me the question from time to time, "Why do Livingston, Helena, and Missoula have a craft beer week and Bozeman doesn't?"

It didn't make much sense to any of us, but being busy with life outside the club, we just left the idea alone. It wasn't until a couple months later, in early 2016, when I had an epiphany I wanted to dive deeper into community building and engagement work (a strong skill set of mine) that the idea would stick.

A week or two later, I'm at the Western in downtown Bozeman sitting at breakfast with Loy Maierhauser (my good friend and partner in organizing this community effort). I told her about my idea for Bozeman's first craft beer week and asked if she'd want to help me make this idea a reality. Being as passionate about beer as myself, she was up to the task. And so in this moment, the beginnings of Bozeman Craft Beer Week began to take shape.

Now here we are ... a ton of hard work and hustle later and with a tremendous outpouring of community support to show for it. We're only a little over two months out from the big event and I know a lot of Montana craft beer drinkers who couldn't be more excited!

Today, I want to give you a chance to dig a little deeper into our story and how this grassroots movement got its start. Over the course of the last few months, we've had the pleasure to sit down with reporters from some of Montana's staple newspapers including the Great Falls Tribune.  To learn more about #BznBeerWeek's origins, read their story at the link below!

Who knows, maybe our story will inspire you to go out and start something big too!

To you, the craft beer drinkers, the brewers, and all the business owners involved in making this event possible we thank you from the bottom of our pint glasses. Loy and I couldn't do this without you! It's because of you that Bozeman Craft Beer Week is made possible.

So save the dates and we'll save you a beer!

Cheers,
Jesse Bussard

Inaugural Bozeman Craft Beer Week showcases Gallatin Valley's burgeoning beer scene

Local homebrewers organize eight-day, multi-venue craft beer celebration in southwest Montana

Bozeman, MT (January 10, 2017) - Fermentana is excited to announce Bozeman Craft Beer Week, happening May 6th thru May 13th, 2017. Organized by two avid Bozeman homebrewers, the eight-day beer bash is a grassroots collaboration designed to spotlight the Gallatin Valley's vibrant craft beer community. The week will feature a variety of beer-centric events at local breweries, restaurants, and more across Bozeman and Belgrade, Montana.

Jesse Bussard, a local homebrewer and writer, first formed the idea for the event week after noticing the popularity of craft beer weeks in other towns across the state. With 67 craft breweries in operation to date, Montana currently ranks 4th for breweries per capita in the nation. Feeling the Bozeman-area was long overdue for such an event week with its existing nine craft breweries and more in planning, she sought out the help of fellow homebrewer, Loy Maierhauser, to make the thought a reality.

The duo founded Fermentana, an events promotions company, in May 2016 to oversee the organization of Bozeman Craft Beer Week. From day one, Bussard and Maierhauser had no trouble finding enthusiastic fellow beer lovers and brewery owners who jumped at the idea.

The current list of participants includes Bozeman and Belgrade's nine craft breweries:

  • 406 Brewing Company
  • Bar 3 Brewing
  • Bozeman Brewing Company
  • Bridger Brewing
  • Bunkhouse Brewery
  • Madison River Brewing Company
  • MAP Brewing
  • Outlaw Brewing
  • White Dog Brewing

In addition, local cider maker, Lockhorn Hard Cider, the Montana Brewers Association, developers of the craft beer app, PintPass, and Bozeman's local homebrew club, Bridger Brew Crew, as well as an array of Montana craft beer-supporting restaurants like Montana Ale Works and Red Tractor Pizza, and even a local pet store, Dee-O-Gee, have also signed up to be involved.

“We want to get a diverse range of organizations within the community to have a wide range of things to do,” Bussard says.

“There are so many ways for businesses to participate even if they’re not directly related to the beer industry,” Maierhauser added.

The hallmark of Bozeman Craft Beer Week is the focus on craft, community, and collaboration prevalent throughout the craft beer industry and shared by the venues hosting craft beer-related events during the week. The organizers plan to also publish a passport for the event to offer craft beer enthusiasts special discounts and incentives at participating businesses during the eight-day gala.

So far, events scheduled for the week consist of a collaboration beer project between local breweries, brewery tours, beer and cider tastings, beer dinners, beer releases, and a host of other events with more to come. The Montana Brewers Association's Brewers Spring Rendezvous, as well as a beer brunch the following day, will culminate the eight days of events at week's end.

Fermentana invites all to join in celebrating the best Gallatin Valley's craft beer scene has to offer.
