A Huge #BZNBEERWEEK Thank You!!!

BCBW 2019 Facebook Header-01.png

THAT'S A WRAP!!

That's a close of Bozeman Craft Beer Week 2019, and what a week it has been!! We just wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all of you - thanks for being a part of this amazing week of community events.  Thank you for attending events, for trying new things, for making new friends and connections, and for being a true part of this Bozeman Craft Beer Community.

A huge thanks to all of our sponsors and event hosts, to our local breweries for being the backbone of the week (and an extra special thanks to Outlaw Brewing for hosting this year's collaboration beer!), and to the Bozeman Area Community Foundation for being so involved and supportive as we worked with them as our 2019 non-profit partner.

Don’t worry - there will be a chance to relive the memories - stay tuned later this month, and we’ll be releasing some of our favorite pictures and videos from the week.  Make sure you're following Fermentana on Facebook and Instagram so you can relive the memories with us and stay up to date on our future events!

Jesse and I are about to sleep for a few days now, but when we emerge well-rested, you can guarantee we'll be right back at it, preparing Bozeman Craft Beer Week 2020!!  We love celebrating with you all every year, so we're already looking forward to next year.

Cheers,
Loy & Jesse

#BZNBEERWEEK Day 8 - Wrap up BCBW with a Jam-Packed Final Day!

BCBW 2019 Facebook Header-01.png

IT'S THE FINAL DAY OF BCBW2019!

It's the last day of the 3rd annual Bozeman Craft Beer Week... and what a week it's been!  It's been so amazing to share this incredible week of events with you all.  But just because it’s the last day doesn’t mean the events are slowing down… it’s a jam-packed line up for your Saturday, so… it’s the final edition of Loy’s daily plan! Check it out!

Loy’s IF-I-WERE-YOU Saturday, May 11th plan:

1) I’m a HUGE fan of Beer Olympics - as an event that outgrew its first home, I’m looking forward to seeing how this event is growing! This year, True Spirit Crossfit & Yoga is hosting this silly, fun, exciting competition of some feats of strength, and some just “stupid human tricks” - all of which are amazingly entertaining. Didn’t get a team together? No worries, just come watch the excitement! Observers are more than welcome as well!

2) Then it’s out for some lunch and let’s be real, maybe home for a quick nap before I head over to the Montana Brewers Spring Rendezvous! This is it, folks, the capstone event for the week! This Montana-only brewfest will feature over 20 breweries from around the state and over 100 beers to taste! PLUS - this is the event where we’re giving away all the AMAZING beer week prizes - including a KEGERATOR stocked with a keg and CO2 for a year from General Distributing. We’ll also be announcing the winners of the Best of Craft Beer Week awards… so this is a NOT-TO-MISS event!!

3) During the VIP hour at the Rendezvous, Single Six Media is hosting an IPA challenge - which my tastebuds were born for. I’m gonna see if I can name the IPAs (I mean… there’s prizes involved!) so come give it a try with me!

4) After a long brewfest, it’s always good to wind down with a final beverage at the Rendezvous After Party, hosted by the Bozeman Taproom. It’s supposed to be nice out tonight too, so I’m excited to relax on their patio.

5) And of COURSE - I’m going to be Ubering all around today, because, as you already know, COMMUNITY is one of Fermentana’s core values. We love you all and want you to stay safe out there! Don’t drink and drive!

Alright friends, we’ll see you out there! Cheers!

#BZNBEERWEEK Day 7 - Cheers to Fri-Yay!

BCBW 2019 Facebook Header-01.png

IT'S FRIDAY!  NEED WE SAY MORE?

We're might be coming towards the end of Craft Beer Week, but the events are ramping up!  Get your workout in before the weekend, stop by a happy hour (or two) and learn everything you wanted to know about sour beers... That sounds like a Fri-Yay if we've ever heard of one! With four events, though, strategizing your Friday night might get a little tricky, so here’s what I recommend for the day:

Loy’s IF-I-WERE-YOU Friday, May 10th plan:

1) The day’s events really don’t start until later this afternoon, so if I were you, I’d make sure I’ve got my work done early so I can take full advantage of the evening. (And just a quick reminder - as you go to various events this evening, remember that Craft Beer Week is as much about COMMUNITY as it is about CRAFT, so please, take care of yourself and your community and get a safe ride home!)

2) I’d probably start over at Element Hotel for their Happy Hour with Julius Lehrkind Brewing. I’m excited to get a chance to try the beers and chat with the brewer about their work! A casual happy hour downtown seems like the perfect way to start off the evening!

3) I’m only going to have some small samples at Happy Hour, though, because at 5:30, I’m headed over to True Spirit CrossFit & Yoga for their FREE Crossfit class. I’ll admit, I’ve never tried Crossfit before (!) and I’m super curious about it - so this is the perfect time to try! Plus, let’s be honest, we’re on day 7 of beer week… I could definitely use a good work out ;)

4) On my way back into town, I’m going to stop by Stone Glacier for their Happy Hour and see if I can get entered to win one of their amazing packs. I love winning stuff, so maybe luck will be on my side today? Either way, I’m excited to see their showroom!

5) Then on my way home, I’ll stop by Backcountry Burger Bar for their Sour Beer Symposium. I’m really looking forward to seeing what beers this event’s sponsor, Bronken’s, has pulled out of their cellar for this occasion - there should be some amazing options available… and of course after Crossfit, I’m sure I could use a burger!

6) Since I live close to downtown, I’ll probably be walking home, and then get right to bed because tomorrow is not only our LAST DAY of beer week, but also the brewfest! Definitely want to be fully rested up for that!

See you out there, friends!

#BZNBEERWEEK Day 6 - Thursday Just Got A Little Thirstier

BCBW 2019 Facebook Header-01.png

WHEN THIRSTY-THURSDAY MEETS BZNBEERWEEK

Today we've got a great variety of events ranging from goats (yep, I said goats again) to dogs (yep, dog beer will be involved) to Vikings.  WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING TODAY?  Read below to find out and to get my plan for the evening.

Loy’s IF-I-WERE-YOU Thursday, May 9th plan:

1) I’m spending my morning drinking water and having a good, solid breakfast, because I’m giving blood this morning!! What does this have to do with Craft Beer Week, you ask? Well, each year, the Red Cross does a blood drive during craft beer week and if you donate blood, you get a voucher for a free beer at one of our amazing craft breweries! It’s pint-for-a-pint! :) There may still be spots left, so give them a call.

2) After an afternoon of hydrating to help my body recover from donating blood, I’d head over to the 3rd annual Yappy Hour at Dee-O-Gee. I absolutely LOVE this event, plus it’s a fun excuse to take our pup out and treat him to some well-deserved dog beer (and we usually end up buying him whatever treats he manages to start chewing while we’re not looking - he’s smart like that.)

3) From there, I’d head over to Valhalla Meadery and while I absolutely LOVE dressing up, I’m afraid I don’t own a Viking outfit, so I’ll have to sit out the costume portion of this event. (You get a discount if you come in Viking gear, though, so definitely wear it if you’ve got it!) I’m excited to taste their mead and get a tour of the process. As much as I know about beer, I actually know very little about mead, so I’m looking forward to checking it out!

4) Then I’d wrap up my evening over at Red Tractor Pizza for Beer & Bluegrass, Games & Goats. YEP it’s the second day of Goats in beer week this year, and I’m SO excited to see what this event brings. I don’t really need an excuse to go eat the amazing ‘za at RTP, but during beer week (and on the day I gave blood) you might see me with a full pizza to myself. Don’t judge! I’m just living that BCBW life.

See you out there, friends!

#BZNBEERWEEK Day 5 - On Wednesdays We Drink Beer (or Cider)

BCBW 2019 Facebook Header-01.png

THIS WEEK, WEDNESDAY ISN'T A DRAG

Wednesdays are usually that long day... that middle-of-the-work-week feeling gets ya' and leave you feeling a bit blah.  Well not this week!  Beat the midweek blues with the best "hump day" we've had in months! Need some help figuring out your evening? Don’t worry, I’ve got ya’ covered in today’s edition of

Loy’s IF-I-WERE-YOU Wednesday, May 8th plan:

1) I’m definitely starting my evening with the Beer Mile - I’ve got a relay team participating, but this event is hilarious and ABSOLUTELY worth spectating, so definitely plan on swinging by to watch! BUT BE WARNED if you get a bit queasy watching people… let’s say “toss their cookies”… you might want to skip this one. Last year that happened a time or two!

2) After the Beer Mile, I’m headed straight over to The Bay’s Master Class. As one of our only educational-focused events, I’m really looking forward to learning more about tasting beer - the former teacher in me absolutely LOVES events like this, and let’s be real, I love geeking out with other beer nerds and learning about beer with people!

3) After Master Class, I’d wrap up my evening at Lockhorn Cider with their Cider-and-Sausage pairing. I love Lockhorn’s low-key vibe and sipping some cider, snacking on sausage, and waiting for my sister to roll into town (yep, she’s coming to visit for the last half of beer week, and I’m super excited to have her here!) sounds like the perfect way to wind down!

Loy’s ALTERNATIVE IF-I-WERE-YOU Wednesday, May 8th plan:

You may have noticed I only have three events listed above, and our fourth event today would be my alternative plan. Our fourth event today is Blacksmith Italian’s Beer Pairing Dinner with Bunkhouse Brewery, and the menu looks ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. You should absolutely treat yo’self and go to this dinner if the beer mile isn’t your style. I just didn’t feel like showing up to a beautiful beer dinner all sweaty and bro-ed out from my run would be appropriate and certainly wouldn’t do the amazing pairing menu justice. ;) But this would be my alternative plan for the night!

Check out more about our amazing Wednesday events below!

#BZNBEERWEEK Day 4 - Test Your Strength

BCBW 2019 Facebook Header-01.png

TODAY IS ABOUT STRENGTH:
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL

Today you'll need all your strength - it's going to take some brain power as well as some physical strength - for today's events!  Today we ramp back up with FOUR events happening this evening, so I thought another if-I-were-you schedule might be helpful. Check it out!

Loy’s IF-I-WERE-YOU Tuesday, May 7th plan:

1) I tried Kelsey’s letter to my boss but unfortunately, even I couldn’t get the week off. So alas, I’m headed to work this morning. So, I’ll work all day today, but spend a significant amount of time daydreaming about the Beer Week events I’ll be headed to tonight.

2) After work, I’d head straight to the Bozeman Taproom to try their BEER COCKTAILS - yep, you heard that right! Plus a beer cocktail sounds like a great way to wind down for a bit after a day of work.

3) Then I’d get up to Bridger Brewing for their 3rd annual Stein Holding Competition. I’ve been practicing for a year now, so I’m ready to compete! This is always a fun event - to participate in or just to spectate! It starts promptly at 6, and let’s be honest, even the strongest of strong can’t make it more than 10 minutes with those double steins they have… so it’s always an exciting and short event! Kind of like the Kentucky Derby of Beer Week.

4) After the Stein holding, I’d swing by White Dog Brewing for Trivia, and while I think I’ll end up being a little late so I might not get to join a team, I want to make sure to get a delicious beer from them before they shut their doors at the end of the week!

5) Then, right before 7:30, I’d head over to Ale Works - and cross my fingers that there’s a few tickets left for the Beer Pairing menu with Museum of the Rockies. They’ve got trivia going too, so I’d be warmed up from trivia at White Dog… plus I’m super hungry at this point and Ale Works’ chefs always put together some AMAZING pairings!

6) And since it’s only Tuesday, it’d be straight home to bed after dinner. We’re only halfway through the week!

#BZNBEERWEEK Day 2: Level up your Sunday Funday

BCBW 2019 Facebook Header-01.png

LEVEL UP YOUR SUNDAY FUNDAY

It's Day 2, and we've got a full line up of events to keep the Sunday Fun going all day long!  Today's events vary from goats to fly tying... there's truly something for everyone!

And… once again, I had some people (read: one person) who mentioned they liked my post yesterday, so I thought, why not, it might be helpful if I outlined a plan you again for the today! So… here it is:

Loy’s IF-I-WERE-YOU Sunday, May 5th plan:

1) I would make some coffee, eat a little breakfast, and then promptly get over to Nordic for the Goat Races. I’ll be honest, I have NO IDEA what’s going to go on, but I am VERY intrigued, and can’t wait to see what goes down. Plus a Maibock release?!?! A perfect way to start the day!

2) Then right at 2pm, I’d swing over to Outlaw Brewing for my shot at Hop Hole (as a relatively competitive person, I’m looking forward to this competition!) and will hopefully be leaving with some sweet Outlaw schwag. Plus, I can get another pint of that County 6 IPA - have you guys tried it yet?!? It’s AM-AZ-ING.

3) At 3pm, I’d dart on over to Bunkhouse for Pints from the Past. Bunkhouse always has some super unique brews on tap, and I love hearing from the crew at Extreme History Project. That will be a nice way to wind down the afternoon.

4) Then I’d wrap up my evening as a spectator at Creek to Peak’s Brewed on the Fly fly tying competition at 406 Brewing. I’m no fly-fisherwoman, but watching these folks tie flies with BEER INGREDIENTS is INCREDIBLE. I’d probably grab some dinner there as well, and then call it an early evening, since it is only Sunday… ;)

#BZNBEERWEEK Day 1: Start your week off right - WITH BEER!

BCBW 2019 Facebook Header-01.png

Bozeman Beer Fam, wait no more...

BOZEMAN CRAFT BEER WEEK 2019 IS
FINALLY HERE!

WE’RE SO EXCITED TO BE CELEBRATING BOZEMAN CRAFT BEER WEEK WITH YOU ALL!

For this blog post, I thought it would be great if I outlined a plan for the week. When there’s so many choices of what you can do each day, I thought I’d help you out with a step-by-step plan to help you plan out your day. So… here it is:

Loy’s IF-I-WERE-YOU Saturday, May 4th plan:

If you’re new to Craft Beer Week, (or even if you’re a veteran) - sometimes it can be helpful to have someone breakdown a plan for the day for you. SO… here it is: if I were you, I’d structure my day like this:

1) I’d start my day by swinging by Big Brew Day first thing in the morning. I’d want to see exactly how homebrewing happens, so I’d want to be there from about 10 or so until noon, just getting the feel for my future homebrew set up.

2) Then I’d head over to MAP Brewing for the May the 4th Party (I obviously put my Star Wars costume in my car this morning so I was ready to change. I mean, a free beer for coming in costume? I’m TOTALLY IN.) I’d get a half pint of Dank Vader and a half pint of Fempire after the Star Wars themed release at 12:30 before slamming some food before my next stop.

3) Then I’d swing by Dean’s Zesty Booch and do a little custom-beer-and-booch blend, but I’d definitely can it and take it to-go so that I can save it for later.

4) Then I’d go home, get out of my Star Wars costume, and prepare for the Kickoff Party! I’d head over to The Market (across from Sidewinders) probably around 5:30 or so, to listen to Lazy Owl String Band, try the collab beer, and stock up on all my BCBW SCHWAG!!!

5) Then, I’d Uber home (let’s be real, the most IMPORTANT part of the week is being safe and taking care of ourselves and our community!), drink a pint of water, and getting well rested so I’m all ready for Sunday!

Check out more details about each of the events below!!

Craft beer week is just around the corner and if you intend to win Bridger Brewing’s 3rd Annual Stein Holding Competition, now is the time to hit the gym.  We’ve prepared a few moves to help you get in shape no matter when or where you work out.

DSC03106.JPG

Stein holding requires you to hold a stein straight out in front of you with your arm parallel to the ground.  It may seem like a simple task and might even feel like it for the first minute. But this event is no joke! Once pain from the strain of holding up a stein full of liquid for minutes on end begins radiateing from your arm to the shoulder and down the back you realize this event is not for the faint of heart.  This competition will leave you shaking until your body just gives up on you. Don’t worry, though, you don’t have to show up completely unprepared. We’ve got some exercise tips to help you have the upper hand (pun intended) when it comes to your next stein holding escapade!

Volunteering for Craft Beer Week is the Best Decision you'll make this Spring

IMG_3718.JPEG

Kelsey

Our Beloved “Beer Intern”

Don’t believe us? Keep reading to learn how #BznBeerWeek intern Kelsey’s interest in craft beer led her to a greater appreciation of community and some incredible beer adventures along the way.

Being a craft beer week volunteer has some obvious perks. You get a free passport for the week which includes some great discounts at select sponsor locations. Passport holders are also the lucky few who can enter to win our giveaway.

Not convinced to get a passport yet? The prizes so generously donated by our sponsors include a brand new kegerator, Pelican coolers, gift cards, craft beer week swag and more!

You’re might be thinking, “Well then I’ll just buy their awesome t-shirt for $20 and a passport for $10 because my money is going to a good place and I’m not motivated by a free t-shirt like I was in college.”

But volunteering for craft beer week is so much more than free stuff and helping us make craft beer week happen.

DSC_0199.jpg

When I volunteered for craft beer week the first year, I was looking for opportunities to be more involved in my community. I think I actually found the sign up to volunteer by googling something lame like “fun volunteer opportunities Bozeman.”

I found the craft beer week website and was like, “Hell yeah, volunteering and drinking beer sounds like my kind of jam.”

I was only available to volunteer at the Brewed on the Fly event that year. Since I signed up too late to go to the volunteer info pick up party, Jesse (#BznBeerWeek co-founder) met me at the event and had a shirt and passport waiting for me. I expected to have more responsibility, but we just sold craft beer week swag, stamped passports, and answered basic questions from a FAQ sheet that was provided to us. I used my passport to get a discount on a beer and watched some awesome fly tying. It couldn’t have been an easier volunteer gig.

DSC03239.jpg

The next year I signed up for a few events that worked with my schedule. I met some incredible people, drank beer, and witnessed what can only be described as a true feat of beer athleticism when this man (pictured right) dominated the beer mile in jeans.

That week also led me to where I am now. For those of you who don’t know me, I am helping Jesse and Loy with craft beer week and my official title is, “Beer Intern.”

Yeah, it is as cool as it sounds.

I try new beers all the time, assist with craft beer week and I spend my time getting to know beer pals like you. And all of that is because I took 2 hours out of my day 3 years ago to stamp passports and wear a rad t-shirt.

Volunteer Pro Tips

If you’re shy, grab a pal and pick an event that you are both available to volunteer for.

It’s the perfect opportunity to catch up, drink beer, and watch some interesting events.

Sign up for events that you are interested in spectating.

Volunteering is not admission to an event, so make sure that you don’t volunteer for any event you want to participate in.

Bring a water bottle and eat beforehand.

Some of the events will not have water available, so make sure that you come prepared. If you intend to drink, do so responsibly and add water to your intake. And believe me, the food pairings will leave you drooling at the volunteer table, so make sure you eat before you show up.

Sign up for events that appeal to you.

I am deathly afraid of people throwing up. If you are like me, do not sign up for the beer mile. The event was a blast and absolutely hilarious, but one of the participants violently threw up for 30 minutes which left me totally useless. So take my advice and make sure you understand what the event is before you sign up.

Got questions?

Head over to our volunteer info page to learn more about how you can help your community and drink beer. Read all you need to know and are ready to sign up? Click the button below and get to volunteering!

4 Tips for a Great Bozeman Beercation

It’s hard to believe, but Bozeman’s 3rd Annual Craft Beer Week is just around the corner (1 month to go!). For those of you traveling from out of town, now is the time to finalize those travel plans so you can have the ultimate Bozeman beercation! We’ve planned all of the events and started brewing the beer, we just need you to be here to enjoy it all with us May 4-11! To help you get prepared, we’ve put together some travel tips for y’all. Read on to get the skinny on visiting the Gallatin Valley!

Book your room Early

Bozeman is a destination location, so finding a room last minute can be difficult. The best way to guarantee your spot is to book now.

bznel-king-studio-2717-hor-clsc.jpg

We recommend The Element for your stay this year. Not only are they located just off Main Street, but they also have the best views of the Bridger Mountains. (Full disclosure: They’re also a longtime #BznBeerWeek supporter and hosting a rad event during this year’s beer week).

Some of the amazing features that make Element a great place to stay include their salt water pool - perfect place to cool off after long days on brewery patios - and a fitness area ( gotta stay fit for the Stein Holding Contest and Beer Olympics!). Did we mention that they are within walking distance of the free bus hub, as well as may amazing drink and food spots in downtown Bozeman?

#2 Catch a Ride

Whether you’re planning to trade off designated driver duties with your friends or hailing a cab, we suggest figuring that out before you get here. Picking straws after you’ve reach the 3 beer max at a brewery is not cool, so make a plan and stick to it. If you plan on catching an Uber or Lyft download the app today. If you like to support local businesses check out Greater Valley Taxi and save their number in your phone. And when all else fails, there’s also the Streamline bus service. Check out their routes to see if any of their bus lines pass by your place. It’s free and you can feel good about getting home safe!

DSC_0815.jpg

#3 Take a Hike

Bozeman is a center for outdoor activity. Whether you hike, bike, or fish make sure that you plan time to get outside at some point during the week. For some refreshment in the great outdoors, stop by Outlaw Brewing to pick up some cans of this year’s collaboration beer for aprés-fun libations.

#4 Bring a Water Bottle

We can’t stress enough that water is your best friend during craft beer week. Not only does it prevent hangovers, but it keeps you from embarrassing yourself after a couple of big craft beers. We recommend that you buy a new water bottle and grab a sticker from all of the breweries you visit. Start with our sticker in the middle and fill in the gaps with all of the breweries. At the end you’ll have a totem to all of the beer you’ve had!

There you go, beer friends. 4 tips to get your craft beer week plans off to a great start. Now, we’ll leave you to pack your bags and while you’re at it, don’t forget to pre-order your craft beer week passport!
